The main castles of the French Kings during the time of the Angevin Empire were in or around Paris and Orleans. The castle where the Louvre Palace now stands was built in this period.

The Angevins had castles in all of their many domains. The most important were possibly those in Anjou (the hinge of the Angevin Empire), especially perhaps, Chinon and Angers (though Anjou had specialized from before Angevin times in building a network of defensive castles across the whole County).

The Angevins also had important castles in Maine, Poitou, Touraine, Aquitane, Normandy, and of course England (where the Tower of London, Dover Castle, Winchester Castle were among the important ones).

The Angevins had circa 100 royal castles in England alone (not counting castles held by Earls or Barons), and many many castles in their other lands. The Angevin Kings did not really have a permanent base. They traveled around their possessions, from castle to castle.
