Not a historian, but have read and watched books/documentaries on the subject, so just some material you might find interesting or may help.
Several documentaries (e.g. Nazi Hunters) and some books (e.g. Hunting Eichmann, authored by Nascomb) claim that Juan Peron, president of Argentina at the time, had a good political and commercial relationship with the Nazi government, and was negotiating an arms deal with the nazis, thus being in contact with several high profile officers.
Furthermore, some sources claim (e.g. 'The Politically Incorrect Guide to Latin America, authored by Narloch and Teixeira), that Juan and Eva Peron also made deals with the nazis to facilitate their immigration to Argentina in exchange for loot from jewish families gathered after such families were sent to concentration camps.
However, it's important to point out that Argentina has had for a long time (roughly the last two centuries) an "open door" policy regarding immigration, and a good deal of Europeans moved there over the years, germans and others.
