Throughout middle/high school, the harsh terms applied to Germany by the Treaty of Versailles is often pointed at as the cause of Hitler's rise to power and thus World War Two. Is this accurate? If it is not, what were the underlying causes of Hitler's rise to power?
In short no, Hitler rise to power like the majority of things cannot be attributed to one thing, rather it can be attributed to a culmination of different things. Whilst the conditions of the Treaty of Versailles were one of the major contributing factors, and arguably the largest, was the coming of the great depression and the inflation that this caused in the Weimar republic.
