The Great Kantō Earthquake of 1923 is the by far the deadliest quake to ever hit Japan. It killed over 100,000 people, destroyed huge parts of Tokyo and almost all the buildings in Yokohama. How was the city rebuilt? How did the reconstruction affect it and its people?

I can answer the reconstruction effects part. The primary result of this catastrophe was that thousands of new buildings were built. This included residential, commercial and industrial. All of Tokyo was effectively brought into the 20th century with this as new more solid buildings were built many of these were built in the European style with a key example being the main train station in Tokyo.
