Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this but we'll see. I am Scottish and was looking to get a Pictish Tattoo done. I if there was a difference between the art of the Picts and the Celts as they both seem to be close.
Edit: I have't been able to find a large amount to Pict tattoos or designs and was also wondering if there is any reference material?
The knotwork most people think of as Celtic these days was a fusion of Celtic and Norse ( Book of Kells is a good example) circa 7-8th century. The Pictish designs I have seen , with spirals, look somewhat like the much earlier ones of the La Tené culture of Europe. A good , easy-to-find reference is George Bain's Celtic Art : The Methods of Construction .
