It's interesting to look at Israel as a settler-colonial state (settler colonialism is where a foreign entity/presence moves into an area/occupies a land base and their moving into/occupation is authorized, supported, and often (temporarily) governed by an imperial power/state (i.e. Britain overseeing the "establishment" of Israel/Palestine borders)). I'm certainly not the expert on settler-colonialism, perhaps someone has a better definition, but that's the main idea of the concept from my education/understanding.

I would suggest reading works on (contemporary) settler colonialism and how it has shaped contemporary (since WWII specifically) relations between Israel and Palestine.

I'd suggest checking out a book like "Settler Colonialism in the Twentieth Century" (eds. Susan Pedersen and Caroline Elkins).
