The Kipchaks and Cumans were Turkic groups who formed a confederacy controlling a large part of Eurasia. Turkic groups originated in what is now China and Mongolia and slowly migrated westward over several centuries. The closest relatives of Kipchaks and Cumans today are the Turkic groups still living in those areas, which is to say Siberian Tatars, Kazakhs, and Kyrgyz.
