American Civil Rights Act and emergence of "Politically correct speech"?

by oldgeezerhippie

Prior the the Civil Rights Act of the mid 60s the use of perjorative speech when speaking of others of a different social/racial/ethnic/economic status was very common. Politician, MDs, College Professors, Lawyers, Corporate Office and most of the general population could pepper there speech with such language and very seldom get negative feed back or rebuke for the language used when speaking with members of their own class. What is a timeline for this change of acceptable usage?

thanks for the links but I did not see the American Civil Rights Act signed by LBJ referenced anywhere as the end of Jim Crow and how long it took to fade away. Could some one speak to this aspect of the emergence of the age of political correctness?
