Where does the sound of the stereotypical "Indian/Native American Chant" come from?

by Viraus2

I mean things like the FSU war chant (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_vpfblTqng) and this gag from the simpsons (http://www.clayloomis.com/Sounds/simpsongs1/simsg466b.wav). Generally it seems like stereotypical/cartoonish "indian music" follows some instantly recognizable patterns. How much of this is inspired from actual native american music, vs. hollywood invention? If there is a real life example, what tribe or region inspired it, and are there examples one could listen to?

The FSU war chant was created from what a drunk college student in the early 1980s thought Native music sounded like. Though FSU is associated with the Semonile, the "war chant" doesn't sound particularly Seminole to me (while admittedly, I'm far from the most musically inclined person in the world, the FSU song causes me to recall some old Western movie that I haven't quite pinpointed yet). You can hear some samples of old Seminole songs here, among others for a bit of diversity.
