How much effect did T.E. Lawrence have during the Arab Revolt?

by irishGOP413

The film Lawrence of Arabia is a fictionalization account of T.E. Lawrence based on his memoirs, "Seven Pillars of Wisdom." How much effect did Lawrence actually have during the Arab revolt? Was he a major player with Faisal as portrayed in the film, or was he more of a liaison/observer to the revolt, and not a significant force?

This isn't a question I feel particularly qualified to answer, but I can throw a fantastic source at you. I recently finished reading "Lawrence in Arabia" by Scott Anderson, and I thought it was really quite fantastic. Much of the book (obviously) is concerned with the actions of T.E. Lawrence during the war, and addressing the truth behind the myth, so it would be a really good starting place for you. It also addresses the larger geopolitical issues of the region, such as Jewish involvement in Entente espionage, Zionism of the period, a bit about the Armenian genocide, and the experience of an American observer, William Yale. Its very well written, and reviews are pretty praising. So hopefully someone will be able to provide a good answer here, but if you are looking for a book length treatment, it is really a great place to start.
