I've been trying to learn more about the history of the ME and can't find any defining reason for the founding of Israel...

So far I've read that it was basically a combination of Zionists who believed they needed to return to their rightful holy land, the British who wanted the 'Jewish problem' out of Europe and others who thought a people who had been so brutalized during the holocaust needed their own homeland.

I'd really like to understand this issue more and I appreciate any insight!
