Why is the Empire of Trebizond virtually ignored in the chronology of the later Roman Empire? Isn't their claim to the Imperial succession at least as good as the Nicene Empire's? Is it simply about possession of Constantinople?
Can you expand upon this? I just checked Jstor and there are 1,461 results for Trebizond and 1,816 for Nicene. This doesn't seem to be a large difference in attention from historians.
