I have been having a debate with a friend on the argument that Hitler changed his name 'because his original name was Jewish'. I cannot find any information on google stating his name was changed, and would like to run it through you guys.
Perhaps you are confused with the name change of Hitler's father?
Hitler's father Alois Hitler was born when his mother was unmarried and was initially called Alois Schicklgruber. Five years later, his mother married Johann Georg Hiedler. At age 39, before the birth of Adolf, Alois officially changed his name to Alois Hitler.
Now there is some speculating about Hitler's grandfather. Some people speculate, without any proof, that this man was Jewish thus explaining Hitler's hatred of jews. Like I said, there is no proof of that.
Your friend may be confusing Adolf Hitler with his father Alois. Alois Hitler was born Alois Schicklgruber. He was born out of wedlock, and "illegitimate" was written in the space for the father's name on his baptismal certificate. It has been speculated that Alois' father was Jewish, but this appears to be without basis in fact. Five years after his birth, Alois' mother married Johann Georg Heidler; when Alois was 39 years old, twelve years before the birth of Adolf, he changed his last name to Hitler. Adolf's last name was always Hitler.
