Don't know if this is the right subreddit so, if not, my apologies.

I've played (ie. still playing) Assassin's Creed: Unity which takes place during the French revolution in Paris and Versailles. As with all of the series' games, I've fell in love with the locations, the grand architecture, but also the history. What I'd like is a way to keep track of the events a bit better because the events tend to go over my head if I'm not acquainted with the specifics (and I'm, sadly, not).

Is there a scientifically accurate, but not as much "hard boiled" (ie. easy to read) history book you'd like to recommend on France's history in general and/or on the topic of the Revolution which could serve as an general overview?
