I'm taking a class on Alexander the Great and we're obviously doing plenty of reading. As I'm reading about Persia and Arabia I'm wondering what their religion was like? Additionally, it seems as though every aspect of daily life in the Middle East is related to Islam today; what was daily life like? Especially in comparison to Greece/Macedonia?
what time? Persia had longstanding zorastrian religious roots until the islamic conquest and the non persian middle east was mostly eastern christian though of non orthodox sects (mia/monopysites for instance) as any history of byzantine empire would be forced to relate.
Also sol invictus was big in the east before christianity came about while arabia combined mostly jewish and pagan religious histories.
i really think you need to narrow down your question or timeframe
Iran was largely Zoroastrian, especially by the Sasanian period, when it was declared the state religion at one point. Prior to that, there were pockets of Christianity in western Iran and Buddhism in eastern Iran.
Here you go, one of the top voted questions on Islam
In short, the vast majority were polytheists with some Christian and even less Jewish presence.
