Honduras Historians -- Do you know what these symbols signify?

by jcoleman22590

I've been doing some research on the history of Honduran leaders and why they were chosen for each piece of currency they are on. I noticed that many of the bills have these symbols on them. i tried to see where the originate from and the only thing I Got was that they may originate from the natives in that region (Lenca and Mayans)

I found a website that had similar symbols bu i have no clue. Can someone help me find out if these symbols have any meaning and why they were chosen to be put on the Honduran Currency?

A few of the bills do have Maya glyphs on them. The 20 Lempira features the sign for the 9th day, Muluk. The 100 Lempira has this glyph block, which was the emblem of Copan, a major Maya site in Honduras.
