I recently got a hold of this picture and I am interested in who, apart from Nixon, is depicted in this picture (I am not that familiar with American politics, so apologies if I should know these people).
Also, what could the map possibly represent? Is it perhaps (a proposition for) a pipeline? Or a travel route (possibly this?) or a transport route of some kind? Maybe even something to do with Vietnam? I honestly have no clue. There are some cities pointed out, but I can't really make out all of them: Washington, Sydney, Taipei, Bangkok, Islamabad (?), ...
If it might help, the picture was called: '1960 Press Photo explosive san diego richard nixon', but I didn't find any info on this. I'm not sure if the date is correct nor San Diego for that matter.
Thanks in advance!
Only a guess, but this might be a map showing destinations of a diplomatic trip.
Edit: Boom. VP Agnew did a 60,000-km, 11-nation goodwill tour of Pacific and Asian countries. Hated in New Zealand.

I don't have the full answer but the guy behind him looks a lot like Spiro Agnew, Nixon's first Vice President. That would place the picture in 1969-1973.
edit: It appears that Nixon went on a trip to asia and europe in late July 1969, the week after the moon landing. Oddly this map does not have a line to Romania or the UK. Perhaps those stops were added to the itinerary in place of New Zealand and Australia.
