In the Middle Ages (any time during) what was the protocol for a rebellious heir?

An heir that wanted their inheritance right away; or one who was supposed to be king but fought for it early on; did this happen often?

Henry II of England faced revolt by his oldest son Young Henry, and later also by Richard. But that's the only case I can think of, to be honest. Maybe somebody else has a few more examples, but I certainly wouldn't say it happened often.
