How was the relationship between Puritan New England and Cromwell's Commonwealth?

by Puggy31

A few parts to this question:

  • Were colonists mostly sympathetic to the Roundheads?
  • Did any Roundheads take refuge in America after the restoration of the monarchy? If so, did any go on to become notable citizens?
  • What was the attitude of the American Founding Fathers to Cromwell's Commonwealth?

I can answer the second part of the question. Three military leaders who were involved with the trial of Charles I did flee to New Haven, Connecticut after the Restoration. Their names were John Dixwell, William Goffe, and Edward Whalley.
