Cuban Cigars, and Cuban tobacco were known for their quality before the US banned their import. Florida was also full of Cuban immigrants who rolled tobacco imported from Cuba. After the revolution, growers of tobacco and cigar rollers moved to other places in Latin America, mainly Nicaragua, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic, further developing the industries there. They brought Cuban tobacco seeds with them.
There was a forbidden fruit aspect to Cuban cigars that still has not faded. There are good and bad Cigars from every country, Cuba had some bad years especially in the early 2000s.
