Did natives living in the Eastern Woodlands have words for specific species of trees?

Such as White Pine, Red Oak, etc.

You can look around in the Ojibwe People's Dictionary for various trees, eg pine.

This ethnobotany describes terms for, eg, oaks and the question of whether different terms were used (pg 402). White oak is distinguished from Red and Bur Oaks, which use the same term, but Black Oak is apparently distinguished from those two by abbreviating its name. There are also sections on conifers and their uses for medicine, food, and materials; species all have specific names.
