Hello, let me preface this by thanking you for your time.
I am participating in a Model United Nations conference based on the 1971 Islamabad Reconciliation Forum. I am Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
After doing my research, I am quite confused on the topic. I understand that India separated East and West Pakistan (at the time) and that the Awami League would like to separate from West Pakistan. I don't really understand the big picture of what I will be doing in the conference.
A few questions of mine:
I do not want the answers to what I should debate nor would I like the best points to bring up in the conference. That being said, I am quite confused on the topic and I am concerned that I will not be able to hold my own in the debate. As a first generation American from the Middle East I am embarrassed to not know what I need to but I am quite thankful for redditors!
Thank you so much!
Edit: Disregard this, I didn't read the question well enough. TBH, I have no idea what Zulfikar is supposed to do. The war is lost, and Bangladesh already exists. Bhutto will have to sign the Simla agreement where Pakistan would formally recognize Bangladesh. I don't think there is scope for "reconciliation" unless Mujib is willing to forget the very recent genocide of his people.
Original post:
Mujib Rahman would be the Prime Minister of Pakistan, as the elected leader. But Pakistan wanted to keep the control in West Pakistan, not East Pakistan.
If you're willing to amicably give up power, you won't have to send troops to East Pakistan, there won't be a genocide, refugees won't spill into India, and India won't interfere.
