There were girls in there too (or maybe there were two separate versions?). When I was really young an old lady lived on my street (with her Spanish husband, which has always had me thinking since) and on more than one occasion she showed me pictures of her lining up and doing parades and the like. I may have misinterpreted but she seemed fond, talking about it. It seemed to me like scouts/girl guides to them.
