I've looked at the book list, but none of the ones listed see to be on the Restoration itself, rather than Japan immediately before and/or after. Otherwise it seems to be books detailing the whole of Japanese history that would cover it. So, are there any books with the main focus on the Meiji Restoration itself? Thank you, in advance.
Emperor of Japan: Meiji and His World, 1852-1912 by former Columbia University professor Donald Keene is quite useful, in my opinion.
Although both are relatively older books, The Meiji Restoration by W. G. Beasley and Sakamoto Ryōma and the Meiji Restoration by Marius B. Jansen are two of the foundational texts in the English-language historiography on the Meiji Restoration. Patriots and Redeemers in Japan: Motives in the Meiji Restoration by George Wilson is relatively more recent book and focuses upon non-elite actors in the Restoration.
