Since Leif Erikson, and later other Scandinavians, discovered and explored North America c. 1000 years ago, why did exploration not start again until 1492? After the Viking expeditions, why didn't word spread throughout Europe of an unexplored land to the west, causing other European nations to start exploring and colonizing North America?
