I was looking to delve a little deeper into the mythology and history of the Late Han Dynasty. I am looking for a Dr. Robert Moss translation of Romance of the Three Kingdoms; abridged or unabridged. Maybe both? Sorry if this is the wrong sub but I figured I'd get some expert opinions. Thank you!
It's a fantastic book, but it should not be taken at face value as a historic account. It contains tree spirits, ghosts, immortal Daoist monks, and other supernatural elements. If you want to read it because it's a good read, you're making a good call, but just remember that e.g. the real Lu Meng probably wasn't possessed by Guan Yu's ghost and "bled to death out of all seven orifices."
This is the novel most people get, I'd recommend not reading Brewitt-Taylor unless you're strapped for cash.
