Microcosm: A Portrait of a Central European City by Norman Davies and Roger Moorhouse explores and tells the history of Breslau/Wroclaw to tell the bigger history of Central Europe.

I haven't read it properly myself but dipped in and out before a trip to Wroclaw a few years ago but it seems to be well reviewed and the two writers are very well respected.
