Would the people of the Middle East (and the world) be better off if the empire was still around today?
This question isn't really answerable because it is far too vague and broad. What was life like for whom, and when? The rulers? A merchant or craftsman? A laborer? A woman? A religious minority? The answer would be considerably different for each of those, and for the time period.
Someone here might be able to answer this part of your question if you narrow down your question to a specific class of person and time period.
The second part of the question also isn't really answerable here - it's pure speculation, and no one could really say how history would have unfolded if the Ottoman Empire was still intact. The professional historians and avid amateurs here confine their answers to facts that can be verified with authoritative references. You can't do that with a "what if".
I'd suggest /r/HistoricalWhatIf for this question.
