Starvation was a threat to the poor even well into the 20th century because of war, but when was the last time that the average Englishman faced starvation due to crop failure? Crop failure seemed to happen pretty commonly in the medieval era, but no longer happens. When did it go away?

Is this true? I've read that starvation was more prevalent in the 1920s and 1930s, during the era of the hunger marches, and that levels of malnutrition were very low during WW2 because rationing ensured that everyone was, if not well-fed, at least adequately fed.
