Why was there no fire support for soldiers landing by helicopter in The Ia Drang Valley, North Viet Nam?

I may have misunderstood the question, but if you're referring to support from artillery, there was. There were two batteries of 105mm Howitzers located nearby at FB FALCON to give support to the operation.

They fired pre-arranged missions onto the Landing Zone at XRAY and continued to provide fire support throughout the battle. There is an account from the commander of one the batteries at http://www.thehistoryreader.com/contemporary-history/artillery-ia-drang-valley/ and its covered pretty extensively in the official AAR http://www.au.af.mil/au/awc/awcgate/vietnam/ia_drang.pdf - the section on 'Fire Support' in particular.

There was also support from both rotary wing 'Helicopter Artillery' (ARA) and fixed wing air support (TAC AIR) right up to an attack by B-52s on the suspected base area on the Chu Pong Massif.
