I was having an animated discussion with a friend on the mummification process when we came upon the topic of organ removals. Specifically - how did the Egyptians (or any era's embalmers) know to remove the brain? As far as I know there were no complex studies of human anatomy until much later, and, unlike the stomach or lungs which are revealed when opening the torso, how would embalmers know that something was in the head?
Im sure someone in those times had hit someone on the head and seen what was inside.
