couldn't Turing have moved to the US or to France in order to avoid persecution or were his movements restricted because of his wartime work?
wasn't it a bit uncommon that a member of the British upper classes was being charged for being homosexual? Turing received the OBE in 1945, so wouldn't that qualify him for this club?
Turing was arrested in 1952, and died in 1954. Gay sex was illegal in the US too at the time, "sodomy" laws still existed in 13 states until the Supreme Court declared them unconstitutional in 2003.
France might have worked. They hadn't had laws criminalizing gay sex since 1791. But there was still a lot of social and legal hostility.
