How were American draftees notified in WWI?

Once the national draft numbers were selected, how were drafted men notified? The newspaper? Numbers posted publicly at the post office? Direct mail to individual's homes? Did it vary by state or local draft board?

They received a telegram that began, if I remember correctly: "The President of the United States sends you greeting. You are ordered to report..." such and such a place for medical screening and induction.
