Historically significant people named Atlas?

by Per_Aspera_Ad_Suilla

My friend named their child Atlas, which I like even for just the mythological context. But I was trying to locate other historical Atlases and couldn't find anything. I thought Alexander had one in his retinue, but I couldn't even find that. Any help would be appreciated.

None in Greco-Roman antiquity -- at least none that are deemed important enough to make it into prosopographies that favour traditional political-military history. There may be a few tucked away in the corners: doing a search on an epigraphy database I find three inscriptions mentioning freed slaves called Atlas. (And I have to say, that's pretty much what I expected: that the name would be found among freedmen, but nowhere else.)
