The Mongol tribes had over the centuries spent infighting developed most of the military techniques, skills and discipline needed to be a great army. Archery and Horse-riding was emphasised from an early age and cowardice frowned on. However the Khan showed an astonishing ability to incorporate other techniques e.g Siege Warfare, Machinery Use learnt from conquered people into the hit and and run styles of Mongol tumans.
