I've always wondered; with the countries mentioned above having the people practicing Islam being the majority of the Religions, how did that come to be in comparison with India where they had the Mughal Dynasty that was Muslim for over two centuries only have Muslims today in India there as a minority?
Islam spread to Malaysia and Indonesia via trade, While present day Indian borders are drawn in 1947. Indian subcontinent have largest Muslim population, India+Bangladesh+Pakistan (+Afghanistan ) have nearly half billion Muslims. India was partitioned along the religious lines.
Second Origin of religion has nothing to do with spreading of religion, Look at Christianity or Buddhism, Christianity is predominant in Europe even though it is native to Middle east/West Asia. Similarly Buddhism native to India lost in many such philosophies in India, Yet a majority Buddhists belong to South East Asia .
Of course there's always more to say on any topic, but you might be interested in two past threads on the topic;
How did Islam come to dominate Indonesia?: A FAQ thread from over two years ago, there are six surviving answers. The most upvoted one is from an actual Indonesian (the subject is part of the history curriculum of Indonesia)
How did the small Indonesian province of Bali remain mostly Hindu in the middle of the most populous Muslim nation on earth?: Also over two years old, and only indirectly concerned with the topic in hand. A user discusses the religious situation of modern Indonesia, and there is some history of Indonesian religion.
