Why would Mexico be bothered about this?

Mexico took part in the 1980 Summer Olympics when others led by the US boycotted the games in response to the Soviet invasion.

Ironically, the USSR attended the Winter Olympics in the US in 1980 before the Summer games were held, despite the US Calling for a boycott of the summer games.
