Greetings to all..My question is How do I find the reason (my father) received a bronze star in ww2? I have a copy of the extract which states "for heroic achievement against the enemy in France 15 August 1944" but that is all it says. Is there a way to get specific details?...
Also ...the Bronze star was not listed on his discharge paper, does that mean it was awarded post discharge?
I have more info on his unit if I am on the right path here.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you to all our service persons.
Many WWII divisions have websites that have lots of information.
Obviously, most of the actual veterans have either passed on or are too old to keep them up to date but it seems many are kept going by the children and grandchildren of the veterans.
What was your father's unit?
Odd that the Bronze Star (BS) was not on his discharge papers. Soon after the war, there was an order put out that anyone who was awarded either a combat infantryman's badge or a combat medic badge would get a meritorious BS but your research has shown your father's was actually for an actual incident.
