I've heard that Ogedei had a real drinking problem and died in a drinking contest. What was his drink of choice? How was it made and who made it. I can't really picture nomads brewing stuff, so did they take it from the settled people they conquered?
Also the story about how he was limited to a single cup a day: did he really just make a bigger cup? How big was it?
The Mongols' traditional drink is called kumis and is made out of fermented mare's milk and can thus be produced on the steppe without the need of settled peoples. The alcohol content of kumis is rather low, around that of beer, so one standard cup probably wouldn't do much, and certainly wouldn't kill you. I can't provide any specific details about Ogudei, though, sorry.
