What were some critical strategic locations in cold was Europe? (i.e depots, military bases, defensible positions, airbases, etc.). I'm making a board game with conventional warfare Warsaw pact vs NATO so any information is helpful. Any books you can recommend would be great as well. Thanks for your time!
The book Zones of Conflict - An Atlas of Future Wars by Keegan & Wheatcroft might be useful for you. It was published in 1986 and shows the position of armoured units, other military units, (tactical) air bases, and naval bases of both NATO and Warsaw Pact (and Yugoslavia) as well as the main railways and highways. The maps even conveniently highlight strategic corridors (such as the Fulda Gap). The book covers Europe in 4 maps and about 8 pages of text.
