I was reading the history of Israel and the author of the book heavily cites the torah/bible prior to the end of WWII. So it's been bothering me.
Yes, because they are actual historical documents. You might take issue with how they are interpreted, or the author might do a poor job of interpreting them, but they are in fact considered historical documents. Also remember, just because something is a primary source or historical document doesn't mean it is an accurate representation of the past.
