Did the Americans execute SS Nazis as they drove towards Berlin at the end of WW2 ?

I was watching Fury with Brad Pitt. The American army was in Germany in 1945 - street fighting town by town towards Berlin. One small German town had a bunch of kids in uniform who were supposed to die for Hitler but instead they surrendered. There was also a SS officer who the Americans executed on the spot after he surrendered. Did this really happen on a regular basis ? Was this protocol? Or was this drama for the film ?

After the Malmedy Massacre some American units did adopt a policy of no SS prisoners, although it wasn't universal by any means. It largely depended on the individual soldier or unit, although some reprisal killings did take place, they wasn't specifically targeting SS members.
