Was Martin Luther (the reformist) sexist?

by SuperAlbertN7

I have heard that Martin Luther was a sexist (by our standards at least) but was he any more sexist than your every day priest in his time or is it only but our standards that he was sexist? And did he add anything that we would consider sexist to Christianity?

Judging historical figures against modern morality and norms is generally not a good idea. Specifically in regards to sexist ideas, the overwhelming majority of historical figures prior to the mid 20th century would be considered sexist just by adhering to the beliefs of their times.
