How did Greece lose 87% of it's Jewish population during the Holocaust?

by flatironkicker

Also: How should Holocaust historians interpret this statistic with respect to perspective? Is this the right question to ask with respect to a decrease in 83,000 people between 1933 and 1950 in Greece, or are percentages irrelevant compared to Poland, who not only lost 91% of it's Jewish population, but saw a decrease of 2.955 million people in the same timeframe?

My understanding is that most Greek Jews died at Auschwitz. They were a mix of Sephardic who were expelled from Spain 1492 and Hellenised Jews who had been there over two thousand year. They are called Romaniote and were quite culturally different from Polish Jews. Could restate your question some other way? I'm not sure what your asking
