Who was Miguel (the) Pochtecatlailotlac; or What became of the pochteca after Conquest of Mexico?

by Reedstilt

I came across a reference to Miguel Pochtecatlailotlac this morning and after a brief bit of searching for additional information I thought I'd turn over this line of inquiry to our Mesoamericanists before I embarrass myself trying to read Spanish.

So far I know that the pochtecatlailotlac was the head of the pochteca, the Aztec merchant families / guilds and that Miguel Pochtecatlailotlac had some sort of disagreement with Bishop Zumárraga in 1536 1539.

What's the reference?

Like with the rest of Mesoamerica, the pochteca continued on for the first few decades until waves of epidemics permanently fractured indigenous political structures. The social category grows less defined and less hereditary after the 1540s, with social upheaval allowing for previous non-pochteca macehualtin engaging in long distance trade, now augmented by mule and horse trains.

At the time of this interaction though (1536), this was still when indigenous society was largely intact, though there was no small amount of cultural negotiation going on between Mesoamerican and Spanish ideals.
