Communications in the Crusades, how and what with?

by waweewa

Hi everyone, really new to reddit, but I seem to of found some great info for a project I have been given although, I am looking for something I little more specific. I am in need of how the crusades communicated, both with other ships and with main land personnel. I'm looking at an over all with the crusades so 1096-1270, but more specificity the first crusade from 1096-1099. Thank you in advance for any and all help with this,

What level is this project (I'd usually snoop your posts to work this out but, as you say, your new)? School, college, university, personal? Do you have access to a library, have you any experience in history before?

Working out logistics of communication will be difficult, especially for the First Crusade. Our sources have to be recorded or reported second hand, which isn't typical for day-to-day communications. We don't even have a reliable transcript of the most important communication: Pope Urban II's speech declaring the Crusade!
