Where did the Germans get tobacco from during World War II?

by berimbolo90

To my knowledge I know they had ersatz tobacco and coffee near the end of the war and Hitler had anti smoking campaigns. Was the country capable of growing their own? Did they rely on countries like Turkey?

Tobacco is being grown in Germany and has been so for over 400 years. Main producing regions are Badenia, the Palatinate and Bavaria. Main breeds are Geudertheimer, Friedrichstaler (cigars), Burley and Virgin (cigaretts).
