Queen Elizabeth is descendent from William the Conqueror, but to what extent does she actually have Viking blood in her veins?

by peace-monger

Has the DNA of royalty ever been tested to determine their genetic make up? Is there a way to surmise their genetics just by looking at the historical record?

I know Anglo-Normans intermarried with Anglo-Saxons, but would the higher royalty have kept more just to the Normans?

Bonus question: To what extent were the Normans of Viking descent?

hi! not discouraging direct responses, but you can get started on these:

  • Roughly addressing the main question: the Viking Era was 1000 years ago; by now, pretty much everybody of European descent has "viking blood" in their veins: Charlemagne family

  • Re the bonus question: the Normans were more French than Norse; the Norse in Normandy had left their viking days behind them: How 'Viking' were the Normans?
