What sorts of instruments and styles were used? Where did they play, and to what purpose? I'm thinking mostly of pre-Alexandran civilization, though i would be interested in later (Roman) music too.

Based on advice in the comments, I've narrowed this down to three peoples in particular: the Akkadians, the Assyrians, and the Celtic Galatians. I'd be happy to learn a little more about any of the three.
