How important has 'truth' been to religions?

by zzing

I have a friend who observed "Christianity is an exclusive faith, meaning that there are true beliefs and false beliefs" with the consequence that adhering to falsehood is damning in the religion.

Has this idea of truth and falsehood been important typically in "old" and "new" religions, or is it much more nuanced?

EDIT: A more focused question might be: Did the evolution of Christianity substantially change the way society perceived the concept of truth vs. falsehood?

To bring it back to the original question a little, did Christianity in fact change the way previous religions / cultures go about things such as as importance of truth.

Can you clarify the question?
